ISAAA Inc. Announces Panfilo de Guzman as New Deputy Director

The International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA), Inc. has announced the appointment of Mr. Panfilo de Guzman as its new Deputy Director. Prior to his appointment, Mr. de Guzman served as a Senior Associate Scientist at ISAAA, where he was responsible for the administration and management of projects supported by local and international collaborators. In his new role, he will continue to contribute to the organization's work while taking on broader responsibilities in its administration and project management.
Before joining ISAAA, Mr. de Guzman worked as a University Researcher at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) for more than 10 years, undertaking socioeconomic and policy research. He is the principal author of a monograph on agri-biotechnology that received the 2020 Outstanding Monograph Award from the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines. He has also authored and co-authored various publications, including a chapter in a book titled Socioeconomic Impacts of Bt Eggplant: Ex-ante Case Studies in the Philippines. He joined ISAAA in 2002 as Assistant Scientist and later assumed the position of Associate Scientist in 2012, and Senior Associate Scientist in 2020.
Mr. de Guzman earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from UPLB and his Master's in Environmental Management and Development from the Australian National University in Canberra through the Australian Sponsored Training Scholarships (ASTAS) and Southeast Asia Regional Environment Initiative Scholarship. With more than a decade of research experience and a strong track record in agri-biotechnology policy and project management, Mr. de Guzman is well positioned to take on his new role as Deputy Director.
ISAAA Inc. is based at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines, and is currently led by Executive Director Dr. Rhodora Romero-Aldemita.
