
DA BPO Names the Awardees of the 9th Filipino Faces of Biotechnology

The Department of Agriculture Biotechnology Program Office (DA BPO) announces eight awardees of the 9th Filipino Faces of Biotechnology on December 5, 2024, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). The Filipino Faces of Biotechnology is an annual event organized by DA BPO which aims to recognize and honor outstanding individuals who have contributed to the advancement of biotech in the Philippines.
This year's outstanding experts and advocates of biotechnology include Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, Dr. Edward A. Barlaan, Ms. Ma. Antonia Odelia G. Arroyo, Dr. Emiliana N. Bernardo (posthumous awardee), Dr. Estrella F. Alabastro, Dr. Edison C. Riñen, Dr. Lilian P. VIllamor, and Dr. Antonio C. Laurena. Dr. Eufemio T. Rasco, Jr. was a 2023 Filipino Faces of Biotechnology awardee. Dr. Rasco is the author of The Unfolding Gene Revolution: The Ideology, Science, and Regulation of Plant Biotechnology published by ISAAA Inc. and Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).
Atty. Asis G. Perez, Undersecretary for Policy, Planning, and Regulations of the Department of Agriculture, and Dr. Paul C. Limson, Director of DA BPO, led the awarding ceremonies. In his closing message, Atty. Perez said, "This is a commitment to all of you, that within my limited capacity as Undersecretary, I will ensure that future policies will not only focus on regulations but also on the development of biotechnology."
