Nigerian Scientists Stress Safety of GM Products
November 27, 2024 |
The Biotechnology Society of Nigeria (BSN) announced their support for commercially approved genetically modified (GM) products in Nigeria during their 2nd national symposium held recently in Abuja. The statements of the scientific experts from the society highlighted the safety of GM products.
According to Vincent Tenebe, the chairman of the BSN board of trustees, the issues being raised by critics regarding GM products are derailing the country toward becoming food-sufficient.
Tenebe, who also serves as vice-chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria, stressed that Africa remains the greatest center of biodiversity, and its resources are highly valuable.
His efforts in advancing biotechnology in the country were recognized by the Society as he was granted with Achiever's Award during the event. According to BSN, Tenebe's dedication to innovation, sustainable practices, and policy advocacy has paved the way for a future where biotechnology can address some of Africa's most pressing challenges.
