Iron Nutrition Management Strategies Promote Crop Quality in Calcisol Soils
December 14, 2023 |
Researchers reviewed the usage of iron in calcisol soils to boost crop quality. The enhancement of iron availability will also help with human nutrition.
Iron (Fe) is an important nutrient for the growth and development of plants. However, in calcisol soils, iron can precipitate and cause iron deficiency chlorosis (IDC) in plants. Several iron nutrition management strategies have been implemented to resolve this issue.
Researchers from Mexico summarized the different research studies on ferric nutrition in calcisols. They highlighted the advances in grafting and intercropping systems, new chelates, ferric fertilizers, nanotechnology and bioengineering, as well as the underlying mechanisms. These tools are helpful in alleviating IDC and enhancing crop growth and production.
