Governor in Gambia Highlights Importance of Media in Transforming Agri

The Gambian governor of Lower River Region (LRR), Salifu Puye, hailed the media practitioners as powerful catalysts in agricultural development. He stressed the significant function of the media in influencing favorable changes in agriculture by promoting best agricultural practices, agricultural technologies, and fostering positive attitudes and perceptions that can lead to an effective farming community.
Governor Puye mentioned the remarks in his speech at the training for media practitioners on collection and dissemination of agricultural information held at the Rural Farmer Training Centre in LRR, Gambia. The event was organized by Communication, Extension and Education Services (CEES) of the Gambian Department of Agriculture, and was funded by West African Agricultural Productivity Programme (WAAPP).
Communication specialist, Ibrahim Jam Jawo, presented the results of his study on the role of media in agricultural development. He explained that the media could be agents of change, by being the voice of the farmers, the policymakers, and of the researchers.
