Researchers Produce Stem Cells From Cloning Adult Humans
May 7, 2014 |
Two independent research teams from University of Seoul and New York Stem Cell Foundation Research Institute reported that they have produced human embryonic stem-cell lines from embryos cloned from human cells. The first team from Seoul reported in April that the stem cells were generated using nuclei from two healthy men, while the New York team derived the cells from the DNA of an adult woman with type 1 diabetes. They were also able to differentiate the stem cells into insulin-producing cells.
These reports could pave the way towards production of patient-specific replacement tissues for degenerative diseases.
