Celiac Disease Foundation Comments on IRT Report on GM

The Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF) challenged the report published by the Institute of Responsible Technology (IRT) claiming that the increased incidence of gluten allergies and sensitivities is attributed to consumption of GM foods. According to Marilyn Geller, CEO of CDF, the claim is not based on scientific evidence. Since GM wheat is not yet commercialized, then the gluten consumed comes from conventionally-bred wheat. Furthermore, Dr. Wayne Parrot of University of Georgia added that the claim is based on a "handful of deeply flawed" studies with no reference to the 2,000 plus studies of international and independent scientists who all found no evidence that GMOs cause any adverse health effects.
