New Batch of Germplasm Duplicates from ICRISAT's Collection Sent to Svalbard Global Seed Vault

October 23, 2013

An additional collection of 6,200 seed samples from the International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics' (ICRISAT) Genebank were shipped for deposition to Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway. Between 2008 and 2012, the ICRISAT Genebank has deposited seed samples of 97,800 in-trust germplasm collections to the Norwegian seed vault. In addition, 4,700 duplicate samples of these accessions were conserved in the seed vault to monitor germination. This initiative has been possible through the support of the Global Crop Diversity Trust (GCDT) in Germany, the Nordic Genetic Resources Center (NGRC) in Noirway, and the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR) in India.
