NOFA Launches Book Supporting Biotechnology Application in Indonesia
October 9, 2013 |
The Indonesian National Outstanding Farmers and Fishermen Association (NOFA) in collaboration with the Indonesia Biotechnology Information Center ( IndoBIC) launched a book entitled "Farmers Capacity Building on Biotechnology" last 23 September 2013. The book details Indonesian farmers' voice directed to the Indonesian government to have biotechnology as one of the strategic measures to achieve food security in the country. The farmers also urged the government to hasten the adoption of the technology instead of continuously importing many agricultural products from abroad.
The book also featured a message from Hj. Taty Habib Nasution, chairwoman of North Sumatera Province KTNA (Indonesian Farmer Association) who said that, "We have previously obtained substantial information, both directly and indirectly, from various scientific events such as seminars, workshops, media and literature which point out that agricultural biotechnology is the best solution to answer the challenges of providing food and feed in the future and extreme climate changes, and can further enhance farmers's well-being. It is proper that we should enjoy these benefits too." The launch was attended by more than 40 stakeholders. A press conference held immediately after the launch was participated in by 30 media practitioners.
