EFSA: No Scientific Evidence on Environmental and Health Risks of GM Maize T25 and Soybean MON 87708
October 9, 2013 |
The European Food and Safety Authority (EFSA) assured the safety of genetically modified (GM) maize T25 and Soybean MON 87708 after conducting risk assessments on the two GM varieties. As EFSA stated, the compositional, agronomic, and phenotypic characteristics of maize T25 grain and soybean MON 87708 and their conventional counterparts showed no differences that are of relevance for food/feed safety.
EFSA Panel thus concluded that maize T25 and soybean MON 87708, are as safe as their conventional counterparts with respect to potential effects on human and animal health or the environment, in the context of their intended uses.
