Workshop on Environmental Safety Assessment in Indonesia
April 24, 2013 |
A one day workshop on "Environmental Safety Management" was conducted on 4 April 2013 in Bogor, Indonesia. The workshop provided information on the adoption of agribiotech crops, benefits, commercial developments of biotech traits, safety assessment of biotech crops, key positions of international scientific bodies as well as the country's regulatory process on biotech crops.
Dr. Rashmi M. Nair of Monsanto presented a comparison of food/feed safety assessment and regulations in some developed countries and emphasized that predictable and science-based regulations are necessary to gain public trust and unlock biotech potential.
The workshop was participated by 14 members of the Biosafety Commission for Genetically Engineered Product technical team and co-organized by Indonesian Biotechnology Information Center (IndoBIC), the Indonesian Center for Agricultural Biotechnology and Genetic Resource Research and Development and the Ministry of Environment.
