The First Biosafety and Bioethics Course in Thailand

The National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) and the Center for Agricultural Biotechnology (CAB), Kasetsart University, have jointly developed a "Biosafety and Bioethics" course. This course was launched as an elective subject for a Doctoral Program in Agricultural Biotechnology in 2013 at CAB, Kasetsart University.
The course comprises the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity, development of biotechnology and genetic engineering in Thailand, international and national biosafety regulation, biosafety guidelines for laboratory and field work on modern biotechnology, risk assessment and management, bioethics and socio-economic aspects of biotechnology. Experts both from public and private sectors were invited to teach the course.
