Egyptian Editor Given FAO Award for Agric Journalism

Hany El Banna, chief editor of  Egypt's "The Agricultural Magazine", was awarded the A. H. Boerma Award 2006-2007 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The award is presented biennially to a journalist or a person whose writing on development questions had helped to focus public attention at the international or regional levels on important aspects of the world food problem, particularly related to agricultural and rural development in developing countries.

El Banna was cited for being an authoritative and dynamic force for agricultural information in the Near East region.  He was also noted for his "commitment and regular in-depth reporting on local as well as global agricultural issues which has been instrumental in influencing public opinion".

The award, in honor of former Director General of the FAO Addeke Boerma, was shared with Elizabeth Rosenthal, journalist for the International Herald Tribune and New York Times.
