January 23, 2013

Ahmad Ali Aulakh, Provincial Minister for Agriculture in Pakistan, said that the government is providing resources for the promotion of biotechnology. He stressed the government support for biotech during a seminar organized by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). The minister said that "Since more than 60 percent of the country's exports belong to agriculture, biotechnology is of prime importance".

LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar also noted the enormous potential of biotechnology in Pakistan. "It is rightly said that the 21st century belongs to biotechnology. It is really unfortunate that no significant work has been done in Pakistan in this field."
