GE Salmon Draft Environmental Assessment Released

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published the draft environmental assessment of AquAdvantage Salmon, a genetically engineered Atlantic salmon developed by AquaBounty Technologies. FDA's initial findings state that the commercialization of the product would not have any significant impact on the environment, under the specific conditions stated in the application for commercial release. The assessment is now subject to a 60-day comment period, which will end on February 25, 2013.
