CGIAR Launches Two Research Programs on Global Food System
January 20, 2012 |
The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) led by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is launching two major research programs to address problems regarding the global food system. The first program - Policies, Institutions, and Markets to Strengthen Food Security and Incomes for the Rural Poor will identify the policies and institutions that will enable rural smallholder producers to increase their incomes. Recommendations will help determine appropriate policies to reduce poverty and promote sustainable rural development.
The second program - Agriculture for Improved Nutrition and Health - aims to improve the nutrition and health of poor people by focusing on research in four key areas: value chains, biofortification, control of agriculture-associated diseases, and integrated agriculture, nutrition, and health development programs and policies.
Full proposals of the programs can be viewed at http://www.ifpri.org/blog/ifpri-lead-two-new-cgiar-research-programs?utm_source=New+At+IFPRI&utm_campaign=e9cbbb4998-New_at_IFPRI_Jan_18_2012&utm_medium=email.
