Deliberate Release of GM Plants in Spain

Notifications on the deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified (GM) plants for non-commercial use in Spain have been posted online. For the month of May, these include:

  • MON 88017 maize, Monsanto’s glyphosate tolerant and rootworm resistant line;
  • Derivatives of Monsanto’s herbicide tolerant maize NK603 (NK603xMON 810, NK603xMON 89034) and several maize lines tolerant to the herbicides glyphosate and glufosinate as well as resistant to some coleopteran and lepidopteran pests by Pioneer Hi-Bred (DAS-Ø15Ø7-1, DAS-59122-7, etc);
  • Transgenic orange lines overexpressing a limonene synthase gene, for insect resistance, and developed by Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias;
  • Monsanto’s herbicide tolerant sugarbeet H7-1 for use in field trials
