New Book Tackles Future of Biotech in the Philippines
October 28, 2026| |
The National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines (NCBP) released the book Biotechnology Futures for the Philippines: Sectoral Horizon Scans, Policy Pathways, and a National Biotechnology Strategy, which presents scientific evidence and expert perspectives on advancing biotechnology in the country.
The book shows how new scientific research can be turned into practical benefits for everyday people by connecting modern technology with the right policy, infrastructure, and institutions. It outlines a roadmap for a National Biotechnology Strategy, starting with key goals like improving food security, training and retaining local scientific talent, and creating innovative materials. To ensure biotechnology truly supports the Philippines' growth, the book highlights that these advancements must be paired with strong safety measures, environmental sustainability, and public trust.
The book is part of the Horizon Scan on the Biotechnology Path of the Philippines project led by Leocris S. Batucan, Jr., who also serves as the book's Editor.
