Study Concludes GM Maize DP-915635-4 As Safe As Conventional Counterpart

January 8, 2025

A study published in GM Crops & Food assessed the safety of genetically modified (GM) maize event DP-915635-4 for food and feed use and the environment. GM maize DP-915635-4 expressing the IPD079Ea protein was developed to help control damage from corn rootworm (Diabrotica spp.).

The safety assessment found that consuming DP-915635-4 maize poses no risks to human or animal health, suggesting that supplementary studies were not necessary. The environmental risk assessment also showed that DP-915635-4 maize is unlikely to cause unreasonable adverse effects to non-target organisms.

Based on the modernized CropLife International (CLI) model, the food and feed safety assessment for DP915635 maize shows that it is as safe as conventional maize for food and feed use and is unlikely to cause adverse effects to human or animal health and the environment.
