
Total Food Conference Aim for Reduction of Waste, Dev't of Valuable New Products, and Sustainability

Over 100 participants attended the Total Food 2014 conference held on November 11-13, 2014 at Norwich Research Park in UK. The international conference was hosted by the Institute of Food Research (IFR) and sponsored by Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). The conference program focused on sustainable exploitation of agri-food co-products and related biomass to minimize waste.
The participants came from Brazil, India, Mexico and across the EU, hearing plenary talks from representatives of Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), BBSRC, Department of Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) and industry, along with experts from leading universities. One of the speakers was George Freeman MP, Minister for Life Sciences at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department of Health, who discussed the importance of agri-tech in increasing sustainability of food production.
