ISAAA released the latest addition to its Pocket K series focused on a plant breeding innovation called Transcription Activator-like Effector Nucleases (TALENs).

Pocket Ks are Pockets of Knowledge, peer-reviewed and packaged information on crop biotechnology products and related issues which are available for download from the ISAAA website and optimized for printing or mobile use.

TALENs application is one of the new tools and practices referred to as plant breeding innovations. TALENs are extremely precise and have additional capabilities compared to CRISPR-Cas9, such as targeting any DNA sequence, discriminating between methylated and unmethylated DNA targets, modifying DNA within organelles such as mitochondria. TALENs have been recognized as a significant tool in science by various entities. These include the Method of the Year award given by Nature Methods in 2011.

This new Pocket K was developed with 2Blades Foundation.
