Comments on the Environmental Release of GM Wheat and Barley for Abiotic Stress Tolerance

The Australian Gene Technology Regulatory Office has published an invitation to comment on the License Application of the University of Adelaide for the limited and controlled release of genetically modified wheat and barley for abiotic stress tolerance. The trial is proposed to take place on a maximum area of 0.75 ha in Marion and Wakefield, South Australia and in Corrigin, Western Australia between June 2010 and December 2015. Assessments will be conducted for the agronomic performance of the GM wheat and barley lines for biomass production, grain weight and yield under rainfed, drought, and saline soil conditions. Comments to the prepared Risk Assessment and Risk Management Plan will be received until the first of June 2010.
