European Commission JRC Publishes Two Summary Notifications

February 12, 2010

The European Commission JRC has published two new summary notifications. The first is on the selection of genetically modified (GM) potato plants for late blight resistance II developed by the Wageningen University, Netherlands. The GM potato is characterized by a higher level of late blight resistance and depending on the construct contains the selection marker gene or is marker free. The release is intended to produce potato seeds for future trials, to evaluate late blight resistance under field conditions and to evaluate the agricultural value of the modified genotypes.

The second notification is for the deliberate release of GM maize NK603 for field trials in Slovakia by the developer Crop Production Research Centre. The trial is intended to assess the biological efficacy, characterization of introduced traits, compositional analysis, comparison with chemical insecticide strategies, evaluation of possible effects on non target organisms, breeding activities - testing of local germplasm with above mentioned characteristics of genetically modified maize, variety registration trials and assessment of weed treatment strategies in maize under Slovak conditions.
