Farmer Field Days in the Philippines Showcase Legume Production

May 15, 2009

A series of farmer field days in the Cagayan Valley, Philippines was held from April 28 to 30, 2009. Cagayan Valley is a major producer of legumes. The project is  funded by the Bureau of Agricultural Research and is being implemented by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), along with the Regional Integrated Agricultural Research Centers in the seven regions of the Philippines.Through the farmer field days, ICRISAT hopes to promote suitable legume varieties (such as ‘Asha', a groundnut variety) to provide some diversity in food production and enhance sustainability of agricultural production in the country.  ICRISAT Director General William Dar and CLL Gowda represented the institute during the field days.
