Fiber and Biotech in Australia

February 29, 2008

A Vision and Strategy document explores the future role of fibers in the Australian economy and says that biotechnology can play a strong part in its future. The document was prepared by the Australian TCF Technology Network along with RMIT University, Deakin University and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO).

Biotechnology is projected to improve fiber quality through: improved crop and animal genetics; development of materials that are either bio-derived, bio-compatible or biodegradable; and promotion of synergies between the textile industry and the agricultural, environmental, industrial and medical sectors.

AusBiotech, Australia’s biotechnology organization, has made available online “The Future is… Fibres Vision and Strategy" at http://www.ausbiotech.org/spotlight/details.asp?id=117&returnToUrl=%2Fdefault%2Easp
