Agri-Communication Workshop for Indonesian Stakeholders

A Communication Workshop on Agricultural Biotechnology for researchers, government officials, and industry was concluded in Jakarta on  May 16, 2013. Prominent speakers were Dr. M. Herman from ICABIOGARD and Ir. Tetty Sihombing from Indonesia Food and Drug Agency as well as communication experts from International Food Information Council (IFIC): Kimberly Reed, Dr. Martina Newell-McGloughlin, Dr. Timothy Sellnow, and Andrew Benson.

Mr. Agus Pakpahan, Chairman of Indonesia Biosafety Commission, officially opened the workshop and addressed the importance of biotech communication to some  50 participants. The workshop was organized by the Indonesian Biotechnology Information Center in collaboration with the International Food Information Council (IFIC) and supported by Indonesian Society for Agricultura, SEAMEO BIOTROP, and ISAAA

Drs. Martina Newell-McGloughlin from IFIC and  M. Herman from ICABIOGARD discussed current status of agricultural biotechnology in the U.S., Indonesia and key world regions. Meanwhile, Ir. Tetty Sihombing from Indonesia Food and Drug Agency (BPOM) shared information on how to measure and develop public understanding. Kimberly Reed and Ine Yordenaya shared their expertise in optimizing media as communication tool for disseminating biotechnology information.
