CFIA and Health Canada Receive Biotech Soybean Application

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Health Canada (HC) received an application from Syngenta Canada and Bayer CropSciences for the approval of SYHT0H2, a biotech soybean line with herbicide tolerance trait. The application contains request for commercial planting, feed, and food use. Together with the application, they also submitted the description of novel traits, nutrition evaluation of the biotech plant, allergenicity/toxicity consideration, and the environmental impact. The submission follows the CFIA guidelines for evaluation of plants with novel traits for unconfined release, and novel foods from plant sources, and HC guidelines for novel foods.
