ISAAA Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture under the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) High-Level Policy Dialogue on Agricultural Biotechnology (HLPDAB) Forum, conducted a virtual workshop titled Building Knowledge and Regulatory Capacity in Animal (Livestock and Aquaculture) Biotech (GE and GEd) in Response to Climate Change from February 27 to 28, 2023 via Zoom. The workshop was exclusive to representatives and observers from 21 APEC member-economies.

New COVID-19 Therapy Uses Plants |

|
New research led by Shawn Chen, a researcher with the Arizona State University's Biodesign Center for Immunotherapy, Vaccines and Virotherapy and School of Life Sciences, describes an innovative therapy for COVID-19, using transient expression in tobacco plants to develop and produce a monoclonal antibody, or mAb. This therapy may protect against COVID-19, even as the virus attempts to evade immune detection through mutation.

UK Consumers Weigh Appeal of Cultured and Plant-based Meat |

|
A study done in the United Kingdom compared the reactions of 200 consumers to conventional meat, cultured meat, and plant-based meat alternatives in terms of taste, pleasantness, and other appeal-related factors. Interestingly, results suggested that there is an opportunity to promote acceptance of alternatives to conventional meat products based on the former's perceived healthiness despite its reduced expected taste pleasantness and other negative attributes.
