ISAAA Spearheads Asian Recapping and Debriefing Workshop on CBD/CPB and COPMOP |

The virtual workshop titled CBD/CPB Recap and COPMOP Debrief was held from October 5 to 6, 2022 via Zoom and was hosted by ISAAA Inc. based in the Philippines. More than 50 participants from around 20 Asian countries were in attendance to be versed with the latest updates about the discussions in the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CPB). The event also served as a refresher course about the previous discussions on key biotechnology and biosafety-related topics included in the agenda of the next Conference of Parties (COP) of the CBD an the next Meeting of Parties (MOP) of the CPB in December 2022.

Insect Pest Genome Shows 49 Genes from Plants |

Researchers from the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE) in France reported 49 plant genes transferred to the genome of the silver whitefly, a major crop pest in the tropics and subtropics. This is the first report of such an amount of gene transfers from plants to insects.
