Biotech Industry Welcomes EU Ministers’ Support for Biotechnology

The European Union Council of Ministers has supported the Commission’s Mid-Term Policy Review of the EU’s Life Science and Biotechnology Strategy. The Commission communication says Europe must take full advantage of biotechnology, and proposes a refocusing of the strategy to address the greatest needs of the biotech sector. The proposed strategy can give a major boost to the European biotech industry in its bid to build a bio-economy. “It is in the hands of the member states to make the European biotechnology strategy work, and it is very important that they work together in a coordinated way to achieve policy coherence,” said Johan Vanhemelrijck, Secretary General of EuropaBio.
