Malaysian Biosafety Act to be Enforced
April 11, 2008 |
The Natural Resources and Environment Minister for Malaysia, Datuk Dauglas Uggah Embas, announced that the Malaysian Biosafety Act to regulate the import, export, handling and use of Living Modified Organisms (LMOs) will be enforced in the second half of this year. The Ministry is looking into the establishment of a body that would regulate the implementation of the Act, making it a one-stop center on all matters pertaining to biosafety approvals from enforcement to monitoring. The Malaysian Biosafety Law was published in the official gazette in August 2007.
