EuropaBio's Position on Proposal for Imports of GM Products
June 3, 2015 |
EuropaBio called on the EU institutions to reject the European Commissions' proposal on the use of GM products, which gives authority for each Member State to decide whether or not to allow GM products. EuropaBio explained their position with three arguments about the proposal:
- denies choice to all European farmers and consumers;
- impedes innovation, growth, and jobs;
- threatens the intra-EU and international trade flows of food and feed;
- contradicts the Better Regulation Initiative; and
- encourages legally questionable national measures.
EuropaBio also declared their support for the position paper of EU Food and Feed Chain Coalition for a functioning evidence-based EU policy on GMOs. This policy requires EU-wide authorization of GM products which are proven to be safe.
