October 19, 2007 |
Functional foods are foods or dietary components that claim to provide health benefits aside from basic nutrition. They contain biologically active substances such as antioxidants that may lower the risks from certain diseases associated with aging. Crops are now being enhanced through biotechnology to increase levels of important biologically active substances. Know more about functional foods in the latest Pocket K entitled "Functional foods and biotechnology" developed by the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications. Pocket Ks are Pockets of Knowledge packaged information on crop biotechnology products and related issues.
