Netherlands Seeks to Release GM Potato Variety

BASF Plant Science has submitted an application to the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (EC) to conduct field trials (testing) and/or experimental seed production in the Netherlands of the genetically modified (GM) potato line AV43-6-G7, with an altered starch composition according to the Genetically Modified Organisms Decree.

The experimental fields will be located in the municipalities of Steenbergen (province Noord-Brabant), Borger-Odoorn (province Drenthe), Lingewaard (province Gelderland) and Overbetuwe (province Gelderland). The same GM potato variety is also planned to be released in the Czech Republic, Germany and Sweden. Furthermore, experimental releases of the same plant line have been conducted in the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Sweden and no adverse impacts on the environment or human health have been recorded in any of the trials.
