The Philippines stands out as a frontrunner in biotech adoption across Southeast Asia. Since 2002, the Philippines has championed a science-based approach to evaluating the risks of biotech products. The Philippine regulatory system sets the bar for the responsible use of this technology. It has fostered innovation among Filipino scientists, leading to groundbreaking advancements in biotechnology. These innovations have benefitted food security, agriculture, animal welfare, economic growth, consumer health, and biodiversity conservation.

The International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA), Inc., working alongside the Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries Biotechnology Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA Biotech), aims to promote homegrown conventional and modern biotechnology products developed by Filipino experts.

Through Pinoy Biotek, ISAAA Inc. and DA Biotech have created educational resources, including a short video titled Pinoy Biotek Na Tayo! (We are for Filipino Biotech). This engaging video explains biotechnology in Filipino and features interviews with Filipino experts showcasing groundbreaking innovations. Examples include disease detection kits for rice and abaca, embryo culture technology for makapuno (coconut sport), and induced spawning technology for mudfish.

Dr. Rhodora Romero-Aldemita, Executive Director of ISAAA Inc., emphasizes the positive impact of biotechnology in the Philippines over recent decades. She encourages Filipinos to embrace these advancements, recognizing their potential to improve agriculture and food security.
