Majority of British Farmers Want to Plant GM Crops, Survey Says

June 20, 2013

Farmers Weekly conducted a survey on what British farmers think about genetic modification (GM). Results revealed that more than half (61%) of the 625 respondents were willing to grow GM crops, given that it is legal to do so. According to them, the key advantages of the technology are reduction in environmental impact, becoming at par with other GM crop farmers overseas, and cutback in cost of production. Some 47 percent of the respondents perceive GM technology as a good innovation which can be used by UK agriculture to maximize productivity and profitability.
