Advanced Rice Breeding Delivers Up to 82% Higher Yields Under Drought Conditions |
Researchers from India have successfully developed advanced rice breeding lines capable of producing yield gains between 36 to 82 percent under drought conditions. Published in the Indian Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding, the study evaluated 40 breeding lines carrying four combined drought-tolerance genes (QTLs) inserted into the popular DRR Dhan 50 rice variety. Five standout lines led by QTV 108-4 and QTV 108-3, demonstrated remarkable resilience against severe water stress, showing high genetic stability that allows these protective traits to pass reliably to future generations.

Emotion and Reason Drive Farmers' GM Maize Adoption Decisions |
A study of 468 smallholder farmers in genetically modified (GM) maize pilot areas in Yunnan Province, China, examined how rational and emotional factors influence farmers' willingness to adopt GM maize. Using dual-process theory, the researchers explored how farmers' understanding of the crop's benefits, risk perceptions, and cultivation experience interact when making adoption decisions.

ISAAA Engages Public with Forum and Exhibit at National Biotechnology Week 2026 |
As part of the 2026 National Biotechnology Week, themed "Biotek para sa Kinabukasan: Kalikasan, Kalusugan, Kagandahan, Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran," a week-long interactive exhibit and a hybrid forum were organized by the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture-Biotech Program Office (DA-BPO). The activities were conducted under the collaborative Know the Science project as part of the Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries Biotechnology Program, providing opportunities for the public to learn more about agricultural biotechnology, its applications, and its role in addressing current challenges in Philippine agriculture.
