ISAAA Inc., in collaboration with the Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries Biotechnology Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA Biotech Program Office), will hold a webinar titled Leading Breakthroughs: Gene Drives for a Sustainable Agriculture and Biodiversity Conservation aimed at providing information and recent developments on the new and emerging applications of gene drives. The webinar is scheduled for December 9, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (GMT+8), via Zoom. The registration is now open to all interested participants.

Lowering the price of rice in the Philippines is not impossible with the use of biotechnology and the collaboration of multiple government agencies and state universities. The country must leverage the use of biotechnology as a key tool for development. These messages were delivered by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Shirley Agrupis during the opening ceremonies of the 20th National Biotechnology Week (NBW) of the Philippines held on November 25, 2024 at Copeland Gym, University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB).

New Gene Drive Technology Reverses Insecticide Resistance in Pests |

Geneticists from the University of California San Diego developed gene drive technologies to combat insecticide resistance by replacing resistant genes in insects with genes that restore susceptibility to pesticides. The researchers say that this new genetic system has the potential to protect valuable crops and vastly reduce the use of chemical pesticides.

An international team of researchers created the first "fully phased" genome of the popular Fuji apple, a complete genetic blueprint that distinguishes between genes inherited from each of the two parents. From this blueprint, the team studied 74 Fuji clonal varieties and identified significant somatic variations.
