Klima loves the Earth!

That's the popular takeaway from the ISAAA storybook titled Klima, which has been viewed and downloaded more than 1,700 times on the ISAAA website. The read-aloud version has over 3,000 views on YouTube since its release in 2023.

Klima follows a young girl who searches for answers about protecting the Earth in the face of climate change. Guided by a magical pocket mirror from her teacher, she's able to see future climate scenarios. A vital conversation with her mother, a scientist, introduces her to innovations like biotechnology—a key tool for slowing down and reducing the impact of climate change.

The book, aimed at children ages 6 to 9, was written by Kristine Grace N. Tome, Program Officer II at ISAAA Inc. Illustrations are by Winnie Glendore Abarra, a freelance illustrator from the Philippines known for her uplifting artworks on Facebook and TikTok.

Thanks to the Know the Science (KTS) project of ISAAA and the Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries Biotechnology Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA Biotech), Klima is now accessible in Filipino, Cebuano, and Ilocano.

“Localizing ISAAA publications, such as Klima, by translating them into the top local Filipino languages, is a crucial effort. These translated storybooks will empower learners to understand the complexities of climate change and show them how to contribute to climate action in their own small ways. These collective local efforts will result in a massive impact for climate change mitigation and adaptation, and introduce children to the vital role of biotechnology,” says Dr. Rhodora Romero-Aldemita, Executive Director of ISAAA and project leader of KTS.
