ISAAA Inc. Joins the 20th National Biotechnology Week 2024

In show of support for biotechnology, the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications, Inc. (ISAAA Inc.) will be joining the week-long celebration of the 20th National Biotechnology Week with the theme “#experienceBIOTECH: Expand the Future of Biotechnology through Education, Innovation, and Commercialization” on November 25 to 29, 2024 at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Copeland Gymnasium.

According to the Presidential Proclamation No. 1414 s. 2007, the National Biotechnology Week aims to “promote safe and responsible use of modern biotechnology and its products as one of the several means to achieve and sustain food security, equitable access to health services, sustainable and safe environment, and industry development.”
As stated in this Proclamation, the National Biotechnology Week will be held every last week of November, spearheaded by the Interagency Steering Committee composed of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
ISAAA Inc. has been actively participating in National Biotechnology Week, through public fora and exhibits featuring different biotech-related publications developed and produced by the organization and partners. This year, the National Biotechnology Week is spearheaded by CHED, with UPLB as the host institution. This year’s theme highlights innovation, education, and commercialization as common grounds of collaboration that will drive the future of biotechnology in the Philippines.
The National Biotechnology Week will be having two major activities: #experienceBIOTECH and Biotechnology Fiesta.
- #experienceBIOTECH will serve as the main event of the week-long celebration featuring exhibits, panel discussions, and inter-high school and inter-collegiate competitions at the UPLB Copeland Gymnasium.
- The Biotechnology Fiesta features an immersive guided tour for different stakeholders in different research centers in UPLB’s Science and Technology Park, namely the Technology and Business Development Office (TTBDO), National Crop Protection Center (NCPC), National Institute of Molecular Biology (BIOTECH), Organic Agriculture Research, Development, and Extension Center (OARDEC), and Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB).
ISAAA Inc. invites the general public to visit the exhibits and activities prepared by various participating agencies and organizations. ISAAA Inc. prepared exciting games and prizes for everyone who visits the ISAAA booth. The exhibit will be open on November 25 - 29, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at UPLB Copeland Gymnasium.
