The Genetically Modified (GM) Potato Project in Nigeria has concluded its first-year multi-locational confined trial in three locations, with the biotech potatoes showing a uniform yield advantage of over 300 percent compared to the best-performing variety in the country without fungicide application.

Gene Editing Reduces Anxiety and Increases Food Intake in Japanese Medaka |

Researchers from China investigated the impact of knocking out the Neuropeptide Y receptor Y2 (npy2r) in the behavior and food intake of Japanese rice fish, also known as medaka (Oryzias latipes). Results of the study showed that the absence of npy2r reduced anxiety and increased the food intake of Japanese medaka.

The hybrid event served as an avenue to inform stakeholders of the potential and opportunities of improved hatchery protocol for stock enhancement of blue swimming crab. It also boosted awareness of the general public on the impact of the technology. The event was attended by about 46 participants at the venue and 136 participants via Zoom. The Facebook livestream had a reach of 2533.

(BCP), Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), and Corteva Agriscience, successfully conducted the webinar series on Biotech Innovations for A Sustainable Agriculture from November 8 to 10, 2023, via Zoom. This webinar series is a build-up activity for the 19th National Biotechnology Week (NBW), which aims to promote biotech innovations and their potential to help build a sustainable food system in the Philippines. During the three-day webinar series, nine experts from various organizations shared their knowledge and expertise in biotechnology.
