GM Apple

Scab Resistance

Apple scab is caused by the fungus, Venturia inaequalis. The development of the disease is encouraged by wet, cool weather during spring and early summer. Infection first appears on susceptible young leaves but can progress into severe defoliation if left uncontrolled. On fruits, lesions darken with age and appear scabby leading to deformed fruits which eventually fall off even before reaching maturity.
