Labeling ![]() In May 2001, Chinas State Council passed the Regulations Concerning the Biotech Safety Management of Agricultural Gene Alteration. The new legislation regulates GM products and requires mandatory labeling for these products so that the issues related to genetic modification can meet international standards. The Chinese Academy of Medicine admitted that it would be technically impossible to label all food items accurately as to their GM content. However, while the regulations may initially exclude pre-packaged or processed food, they should aim to cover all food products on the market within one or two years after the laws were passed. |
