ISAAA Inc., in collaboration with the Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries Biotechnology Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA Biotech Program Office), will hold a webinar titled Plate of the Future: Nutritious and Sustainable Novel Foods aimed at providing information and recent developments on the new and emerging applications of biotechnology to novel foods. The webinar is scheduled for January 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (GMT+8), via Zoom. The registration is now open to all interested participants.

USDA ERS Report Shows Recent Trends on GE Crop Adoption in the US

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service (USDA ERS) has released an update on the recent trends in genetically engineered (GE) crops in the United States. The data is based on the 2002 ERS report, Adoption of Bioengineered Crops (AER-810) for 1996-99 and National Agricultural Statistics Service, (annual) June Agricultural Survey for 2000-24.

Gene-edited Soil Bacteria Could Provide More Nitrogen for Corn

A recent study from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign shows that gene-edited bacteria can supply the equivalent of 35 pounds of nitrogen from the air during early corn growth, which may reduce the crop's reliance on nitrogen fertilizer.

UMass Amherst Team to Develop New Plant-based Protein Food from Chickpeas and Peas

A research team from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst) will be developing a tasty, nutritious, and sustainable plant-based alternative to animal meat. This product may help offset the health risks of the Western diet, such as obesity, fatty liver, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes.
