The Gene Flow in Plants and Microorganisms Initiative

The aim of this initiative is to provide a greater understanding of the biological events that control and influence the insertion of new genetic material into the genomes of plants and microorganisms and of the consequences of gene flow.

This initiative is intended to complement other research supported by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) by stimulating work in areas where advances in scientific approaches provide the potential for a better understanding of basic mechanisms. BBSRC and NERC wish to encourage the application of genomic approaches. For example, considerable insights into the movement of genes could be achieved through the investigation of molecular evolution.
