Relevant Information on the Crop

Papaya (Carica papaya), also called papaw or pawpaw, is a succulent fruit of a large plant from the Caricaceae family. The fruit is commonly spherical to cylindrical shaped. The very juicy flesh is deep yellow or orange to salmon-colored. In the large central cavity are numerous round, wrinkled black seeds. The papaya fruit is slightly sweet. It is a popular breakfast fruit in many countries and is also used in salads, pies, sherbets, juices, and confections.

Its common names in other parts of the world include Chich Put, Fan Kua, Kavunagaci, Lechoso, Lohong Si Phle, Mapaza, Mu Kua, Papailler, Papaye, Papayer, Pawpaw Tree, Pepol, Tinti, Wan Shou Kuo, Betik petik, Gandul, Katela gantung, Kates, Kepaya, and Kuntaia.
