Agricultural Biotechnology Support Project II
Southeast Asia

Project Overview

The Agricultural Biotechnology Support Project II (ABSPII) focuses on the safe and effective development and commercialization of bio-engineered crops as a complement to traditional and organic agricultural approaches in developing countries. The project helps boost food security, economic growth, nutrition and environmental quality in East and West Africa, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh and the Philippines. Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and led by Cornell University, ABSPII is a consortium of public and private sector institutions. The consortium develops innovative, pragmatic solutions, building on the successes of the Agricultural Biotechnology Support Project (ABSP) that was led for over a decade by Michigan State University.

ISAAA, through its global knowledge sharing initiative, assists ABSPII by providing its expertise in knowledge networking and communication in target countries in Asia and Africa. With the help of its own network of Biotechnology Information Centers (BICs), ISAAA assists ABSPII in localized biotechnology outreach mainly in Indonesia and the Philippines in Southeast Asia, and to a lesser extent, in Bangladesh and India in South Asia, and Mali in West Africa.
