African Initiative to Take Leadership of Research on Key Crops

November 11, 2011

The African initiative Support to Agricultural Research for Development on Strategic Crops in Africa (SARD-SC) aims to help Africa move forward its vision of a food-secure Continent focusing on its research agenda on key agricultural crops. The Initiative is ably supported by experts from the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), and the Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice).

In an interview with Dr. Peter Hartmann, the IITA Director General said that the Initiative follows the set agenda of the African Union's Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program on hunger, food security, agricultural research and sustainable food systems for Africa. This will also allow access of research from around the world for the benefit of the African continent.
