Bangladesh and Purdue University Collaborate on Biotech

Bangladesh universities and Purdue University in the U.S. are pursuing research and educational collaboration in biotechnology. M.A. Sattar Mondal, vice chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University, said that a sustainable institutional relationship will be implemented to promote teaching and research on biotechnology, formulate bilateral research projects, encourage exchange of scientists, and implement training programs on biotechnology and related fields.

To start the process, Dr. K.G. Raghothama, Director of International Programs in Agriculture, Purdue University visited universities to explore collaborations. He gave a seminar at Bangladesh Agricultural University and Dhaka University on "Molecular regulation of plant responses to phosphate deficiency" on 15 March 2011. The seminar and discussion meeting was arranged by the International Service for Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) and Bangladesh Association for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (BABGE).
