Brazil Expects Bumper Soybean Crop Harvest

January 15, 2010

The United States Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service reports that Brazil's 2009-2010 soybean harvest is predicted to be a record 65 million tons or 14 percent higher than last year's figures. Mato Grosso and Parana, top largest producing states, are expecting bumper crops.

Land area devoted to the crop is forecast to be 23.1 million hectares or 6 percent higher than in 2009. More land area was planted to soybean due to higher soybean prices and greater profit margin compared with corn.
